Ha! I'd love it if some city or college picked this book for one of those "the whole town reads a book" programs. It would be excellent to see what kind of events the book would inspire. A beauty pageant would be well down the list. This book is nuts in the best way. Bray uses the furniture of postmodernism* (footnotes, addressing the reader, different modes of text, and, fun, baby, fun—actually more like so sharp you're eyes will bleed satire, irony, humor, and anger) to keep her basic plot (pretty girls stranded on a desert island!) kicking along all the while sandblasting contemporary pop culture. Read this book! * Also known as LaurenceSterniumania
